What can I do about acne scarring on my face?

I have a light to moderate case of acne. Usually it’s not much of a problem, but over the years, scars from it have acumulated pretty badly, to the point that red patches would appear under my nose and on my chin, forehad, and nose.

If you’re looking for accurate acne information, best to see a dermatologist. Some people believe doctors are predisposed to take the easy way to deal with acne… prescription drugs. But, with many, this simplistic answer may not be the appropriate course of action. Some feel that such prescription drugs just treat the symposium and not the underlying cause. But, a local dermatologist is still your best starting point.
For me personally, I discovered a great informational acne treatment site. Not only is there good information/articles but I got their audio e-book and following it’s advice can now say that my acne is a thing of the past! Keep in mind, were all different and there are various types of acne, so what works for some may not be totally effective for all.
Bottom line, hang in there, you will get past this! Sincere best wishes and good luck.

Maderma is expensive..it does work. It is made from onion extract. Rub an onion on the scars several times a day. The onion must be cut in half and the juice on the skin. If you can afford it, have laser removal.

make sure to use a good scrub that will take off dead skin cells well, like an apricot scrub or the “Neutrogena Pore Refining cleanser” and the toner that goes with. You could also do micro demabrasion

i hear baking soda absorbs acne but i could be wrong
you could also try decreasing the amount of lipids you consume
(lipids are fats so anyting greasy or oily will resault in pimples and soda is a bad idea too)

try acne free, cheaper than proactive and it really does work, you might also want to add a b complex vitamin to your diet-that helps to break down certain fatty acids that normally sit around and accumulate in your dermis-so that helps to break em down and move them to the right place…different biochem pathway-
also keep drinking lots of water to flush toxins out of your system-avoid fried foods, chocolate, soda, junk foods-

Start using “Oil Of Olay” products,it will clear the scars up in a few months,I started using their products at 45 yrs old and they have improved my skin a lot!they are more expensive,but,last a long time,it is worth the money,I bought 1 every payday and had everything I needed!

There is this cream called mederma it help heal scaring even after the scar is there and it helps prevent them.

well, don’t pick at ur skin, that makes it worse. u should also try proactiv to clear up the acne. for the scars, try AcneFree Scar lotion. and drink lots of water.

Yea Acne Free ( its like the genaric version of Pro Active) just came out with some scar healing lotion. I just started using the day before yesterday for my “pothole” scar, so I don’t know if it works that well yet. It’s not to expensive though so it’s worth a try I guess.
You can get it at Wal Mart.

Treatments Of Acne Scars
Acne scars leave their mark not only on the skin but also on the persons’ psyche. With rapid developments in dermatology, treating acne scars is becoming easier. Consult your dermatologist about the best treatment for your acne scars. The choice will depend upon your medical history, the type of scar and the treatments available for that type of scarring. Some treatments are cheaper but may not give the best results. The choice therefore also depends on your budget and the kind of results you desire. Read below for the kinds of treatments available for acne scars.
Dermabrasion:
This is considered one of the most effective treatments for acne scars. In this procedure, the doctor uses a local anesthetic or freezes the skin and then uses a high-speed rotary abrader to remove unwanted surface skin. As the skin heals, it shows a brighter appearance. This procedure may remove superficial scars totally and reduce deeper scars.
Chemical Peeling:
Depending on the scar, the doctor applies a mild chemical peel on the affected skin. This slowly peels away the old skin and fresh skin surfaces. Mild scars can be treated with chemical peels.
Laser Therapy:
Different lasers are used by the doctors to give a new shape to the scarred skin by recontouring the scars. The high burst of laser may make the skin red for some time.
Soft Tissue Filling:
Collagen, which may be bovine in source or the patients’ own, may be injected below the scar to lift the skin and give it a smooth appearance. As the injected collagen gets absorbed in the body over a period, further treatments may be needed after about six months. Similarly fat may be injected below deep scars for giving a skin lift. Similar to collagen filling, fat injections may need to be repeated after some months. Your doctor will advise you about that.
Skin Surgery:
Skin may have to be surgically corrected with grafting or other procedures to remove some scars.
Microdermabrasion:
In this procedure. very tiny aluminum oxide crystals are passed through a vacuum tube to scrape the surface of the skin. This procedure may have to be repeated many times. It gives a fresh look to the skin by scraping. Very mild scarring can be treated with microdermabrasion.
Note:
For people who have the tendency to form keloids, no surgical method can be used. If one develops keloid with acne injury, more keloids will be formed by further surgery. Steroid injections may be used to treat keloids. In some cases, topical retinoic acid is applied directly on the keloids.
